"I so appreciated the opportunity to be a part of the Boomerang team as a Student Coordinator for the 2022-2023 school year. As a high schooler in Chapel Hill, I had a couple of friends who went through the program and they enjoyed their experience. That really stood out to me that they enjoyed the program, made strong relationships with the team, while serving a suspension. As an adult, I was searching for a way to be part of the forces disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline that starts with suspensions from school, and Boomerang's program works to do just that! We need to foster growth and self-esteem among our young people and an organization such as Boomerang that works to do that with students, who have been separated from their peers and learning opportunity, are necessary for a healthy future for our communities."

"Working with the Boomerang program has been a wonderful experience for our school and students!. Often, when a student is suspended, they are facing several days at home with no supervision. The alternative suspension program gives kids a safe space to reflect on what happened, connect with other adults, and reset before returning to school. Boomerang staff also help us run engaging, relevant social groups for our 8th grade students. Our 8th graders responded really well to the mentorship of Boomerang staff members and loved participating in groups with them!"

My favorite SEL activity was "Respect", which had students dive deeper into what respect looks like, feels like, and sounds like. Boomerang taught me the importance of highlighting students' strengths to help them bounce back from challenges. Each student is unique and can offer great insights on different things."
